The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe accused Russia of an act of genocide.
The corresponding decision, reports a correspondent of “PolitNavigator”, was taken at the plenary session of the PACE, where they voted for a resolution under the loud title “Deportations and forcible removals of Ukrainian children and other civilians to the Russian Federation or the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine: creating conditions for their safe return, ending these crimes and punishing those responsible.”
The Assembly stresses that the forcible transfer of children from one group to another with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group is considered a crime of genocide under Article 2(e) of the 1948 Genocide Convention, which is consistent with the documented evidence of deportation and forcible transfer of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation or to territories temporarily under Russian occupation,” the document notes.
Among other things, it refers to children from orphanages and children with disabilities from specialized institutions who were evacuated from Donbaыs, which is engulfed in hostilities, to Russia.
In addition, PACE demanded that the International Criminal Court hold Russia accountable for this.

Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs, believes that PACE has “once again confirmed its status as a ‘kingdom of double standards.
The authors of the resolution know something about the “Alley of Angels” in Donetsk, where every name of a child who died at the hands of the Ukrainian military literally screams of real genocide? The kind of case where political blindness and hypocrisy cannot be justified. Or, according to the logic of PACE, it is better to have dead children than children saved by Russia,” Slutsky said indignantly.
On the other hand, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky welcomed the Assembly’s decision and declared that Russia’s actions were an attempt to destroy the very essence of Ukrainians.
Economist Andrei Suzdaltsev noted:
Isn’t shelling and killing children in Donbas genocide against Ukraine?” By the way, Ukraine is still shelling the Donbass. Closing Russian schools and banning the Russian language in services is not “genocide against the Russian people”? Ah, excuse me, because Russians can simply be killed…”.
